Description

...I went for a quick recce of the pond at Dunyeats Hill after work today. It had been drying up quite badly but the recent rain has filled it again.

While I was there I met an old boy who pointed out a small bird ( stonechat) and told me it was a Dartford Wobbler, they are called that 'cos they wobble up and down - apparently.

He also explained to me that when you see dragonflies dipping their tails into the water it is because they are thirsty and they use their long bodies like a straw to drink...

...I decided not to debate the Dartford Wobblers and Dragonfly Straws with him.....moving on ( still smiling ) I saw this Brown Hawker ovipositing on some wood floating in the middle of the pond.

It's always fun when you encounter unexpected wildlife - even the human kind! :))
