Description

Le maquillage d'une Maiko, l'apprentie Geisha

Le fond de teint de couleur blanc était à l’origine composé de plomb. Engendrant de graves problèmes de santé, celui-ci fut remplacé par un maquillage élaboré à base de poudre de riz. La poudre est alors mélangé à de l’eau jusqu’à former une pâte. Cette pâte est ensuite appliquée sur le visage préalablement enduit d’huile ou de cire. Afin de lui donner un aspect plus lisse et uniforme, on utilise une petite éponge. 

Le fond de teint recouvre le visage, le haut du torse, la nuque et le haut du dos. Seul un emplacement, situé au niveau de la nuque à la racine des cheveux, est laissé vierge de tout maquillage. Cette « espace » sans maquillage prend la forme d’un « V » ou plus souvent d’un « W ». Il est laissé ainsi pour accentuer la charge « érotique » de la Geisha.
