Dannevirke railway station about 1900

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Pre 1903 Dannevirke railway station building on the Queen Street side of the line. Access to the station from the town side was via an overhead bridge. Other buildings visible appear to be the original Andrews Hotel (burned down in the 1917 fire) and the Club Hotel (site of Merrylees hotel destroyed in a fatal fire in1946). The engines are possibly J classes which were run on the Palmerston North-Napier line, and there is at least one mixed train waiting at the platform
