In 1889 he removed toDalton, Mass., where his sons had settled, and where he died12 July 1894. He married in Alford, Mass., 1 Oct. 1851,* Teressa VeloniaMillard, born in Hillsdale, N. Y., 14 Sept. 1832, daughter ofSamuel and Mary E. (Stoddard) Millard of North Egremont,Mass. She survived her husband and died in Pittsfield, Mass.,25 Dec. 1911, in her eightieth year. Children: 692. i. Ella Teressa, b. in Forestville, Md., 19 July 1853. 693. ii. William Henry, b. in Washington, D. C, 14 June 1869. 694. iii. Orman Millard, b. in Washington, D. C, 3 Mar. 1872. 429. LUKE7 SHEDD (214. Orman6, Samuel6, Oliver4, Sam-uel3, Samuel2, Daniel1), born in New Marlboro, Mass., 17 Aug. 1825,when about ten years of age went with his parents in the familyremoval to Alford, Mass. He was educated in the public schoolsof his home towns and at the academy in West Stockbridge, Mass.

HENRY SHEDD SEVENTH GENERATION 445 In 1849 he commenced teaching, a profession he followed contin-uously for forty years. Among the places in which he taught andresided were Alford, West Stockbridge, South Egremont, Seekonkand Housatonic, Mass., Hillsdale and Canaan, N.Y., Chapinville,Conn., Beatyestown, N. J., and finally from 1876 to 1889 GreatBarrington, Mass. He was a gifted and conscientious teacher, agood disciplinarian, and was popular and esteemed both by hisscholars and their parents. His good and strong influence over hisstudents was an important factor in the successes made by manyof them in after life. His later years were passed in West Stock-bridge, Mass., where he died 29 Oct. 1911, aged eighty-six years.He married in Canaan, N. Y., 31 Dec. 1862, Julia Ada Norton,born there 20 Apr. 1843, daughter of Lewis and Jane (Barnes)Norton; she was one of the best of wives and mothers, and diedat the home of her daughter in Great Barrington, Mass., 12 Jan.1914.
