THOMAS8 SHEDD (John7, John, John5), was born in Chaw-reth (now Broxted), County Essex, in 1508, but when a youngman settled in the adjoining rural parish of Debden in UttlesfordHundred where he passed the rest of his life. ENGLISH ANCESTRY OF DANIEL SHED 13 Tendring, Weldbarnes, Molehall, and Amberden Hall, the latterlocated on rising ground in a grove two miles south-east of thechurch. This church as originally built in the fourteenth centuryhad the form of a cathedral, with nave, aisles, chancel andtransepts, and a central tower over the junction of these members;but the tower fell about 1750, demolishing the transepts andchancel, and only the latter was rebuilt, and a small bell turretadded to the western end of the nave. The structure is partly ofstone and partly of brick. The register dates from 1557. Thomas8 Shedd was one of the executors of the will of his fatherin 1541 as previously related. His name appears at Debden ontwo subsidy rolls; first in 35 Henry VIII, (1543) when he was taxed6d., and secondly in 14 Elizabeth (1572) when he paid 6s. on goodsrated at £6.
