Title
Daniel L. and Catherine Staley, Staley, Washington, circa 1900
Description
Pioneers Daniel L. Staley and Catherine Pearl (née Siler) Staley were born in North Carolina. They married in 1848 and started west in 1871 with their children. They stayed a short time in Staley, Missouri visiting Eburn Staley, Daniel's brother before traveling west to San Francisco on the Union and Central Pacific Railways. They spent the winter and spring of 1873-1874 near Lincoln in the Willamette Valley of Oregon. In July of that year they moved to Whitman County where they homestead land south of Pullman and formed the town of Staley, Washington. On this land the family made their home and the town of Staley was established. At that time, settlers were beginning to stake land claims across the area known as the Palouse. Note: Contributor Molly Benscoter believes her great-grandfather Daniel's middle name was Lafaette. Another relative, Dennis York believes his middle name was Lindsey. Research of original records is necessary to establish Daniel's correct middle name. Names: Staley, Daniel L, 1822-1905; Staley, Catherine Pearl (née Siler), 1824-1902
