Description Humbolt [sic] River Valley, graphite, ink, and crayon on paper by Daniel A. Jenks, 1859. Drawing shows the Humboldt River snaking its way across the valley from a vantage point up in the mountains. The California Trail is in the foreground. The California Trail picks up the Humboldt River near present-day Elko, Nevada. Jenks arrived here on Sunday, July 31 and remained through Monday, August 1, 1859.
