Summary
[edit]DescriptionDanebower Colliery Chimney (2) - geograph.org.uk - 1518949.jpg |
English: Danebower Colliery Chimney (2) This is a rare survival of a ventilation flue chimney, and is a scheduled ancient monument. A fire was lit at the foot of the long flue up the hillside to the chimney, and the updraught caused was used to draw air out of the mine shaft to provide underground ventilation. This was a widely used procedure before the development of large mechanical fans. |
