Summary

[edit]
Description
English: A very unusual early split-screen postcard by Julian Rust, "Art Photographer," which combines collotype images with the ornate decorative flourish of lithographic postcards. Hobson-Jobson (1903, p. 296) describes a dandy as "a kind of vehicle used in the Himālaya, consisting of a strong cloth slung like a hammock to a bamboo staff, and carried by two (or more) men. The traveller can either sit sideways, or lie on his back." The onetime owner of this card wrote on the front after underlining 'Dandy': "This is the way we 'go to town' in the hills. It is really very comfortable – F.E.J."
