Description

New Orleans, 1942: African Americans at a dance, including 2 women dressed in "Baby Doll" costumes.

Original description: "Baby Doll celebration, a part of Mardi Gras in New Orleans Louisiana in 1942."

Note: Contrary to the description, this appears to be part of a series of photos taken on St. Joseph's Day, 19 March, not actually Mardi Gras/Carnival season (which in 1942 climaxed and ended on Tuesday 17 February). Baby Dolls and "Mardi Gras Indians" would come out for significant but less elaborate festivities for St. Joseph's Day after the lull for Lent.
Date 1942. (Probably 1942-03-19 per rest of set.)
