« Un premier bal à Québec

Louis-Théandre Chartier de Lotbinière est passé à l’histoire grâce à ses 30 années passées à Québec (1651-1680) où il a eu une importante carrière juridique. Il aura été procureur fiscal et lieutenant général de la Sénéchaussée de Québec, procureur général au Conseil souverain et lieutenant général de la Prévôté de Québec. On dit surtout qu’il a été le père de la magistrature canadienne. En effet, il a été de la création du premier tribunal du pays, la Sénéchaussée. Il a été admiré par plusieurs, mais surtout pas par le clergé. En 1664, il avait accepté le poste de procureur général au Conseil souverain, et ce, malgré l’opposition de l’évêque. Et par-dessus tout, le 4 février 1667, il y a 350 ans aujourd’hui, il s’était attiré les foudres de l’Église. C’est qu’à l’occasion d’une fête hivernale se déroulant à Québec, il avait organisé un bal. Selon le Journal des Jésuites, il s’agissait du premier bal au Canada. » – facebook.com
