English: Brigadier General Dan Goldfus headed a joint IDF and MOD-SIBAT security delegation to Nepal, where he met with defense and military officials to discuss security challenges as well as avenues for future cooperation. The successful visit was also supported and attended by IDF Defense Attaché COL Asaf Meller and his deputy, LTC Oren Hazan.
In addition, BG Goldfus attended a ceremony in honor of LTC Marcel Tobias, OBM (1914-1972), a veteran of the IDF who was known as the “Father of all Paratroopers”. LTC Tobias served in the Austrian army as well as the French Foreign Legion; a member of the ”Irgun”, he also fought for Britain in WW2 , including serving in the “Jewish Brigade”, for which he received honors and decorations. He later served in the IDF in a number of training positions and was among the founders of the IDF Parachute formation. In the 1960’s, LTC Tobias headed a delegation to Nepal, where he helped build and train the first Nepalese Parachute Unit. Six years later, he was sent to Africa on a similar mission where he was killed in a parachute accident at the age of 58. סא״ל טוביאס שירת בצבא אוסטריה, בלגיון הזרים הצרפתי, היה חבר באצ"ל ובמלחמת העולם ה-2 לחם בשורות הצבא הבריטי במגוון תפקידים (כולל במסגרת ״הבריגדה היהודית״) ועל תעוזתו קיבל שורת עיטורים. לאחר קום המדינה התגייס לצה"ל, מילא שורת תפקידי הדרכה ופיקוד והיה בין מקימי יחידת הצנחנים בצה"ל. בשנות השישים, סא״ל טוביאס נשלח לנפאל בראש משלחת צה"ל, שם הקים את בית ספר לצניחה ואת יחידת הצנחנים הנפאלית. כעבור שש שנים נשלח לתפקיד דומה לאפריקה ושם נהרג בתאונת צניחה בגיל 58. את הביקור המוצלח בנפאל ליווה נספח ההגנה בהודו, אל"מ אסף מלר וסגנו, סא״ל אורן חזן. |
