| Description |
English: Damsay, Bay of Firth The sun came out and shone on the island, but not on the hills behind, thereby throwing it into sharp relief. Despite being an insignificant looking, low-lying island, Damsay has some serious history. It is mentioned in the Orkneyinga Saga, (a 13th Century Icelandic text) as the scene of the murder of Erland, an Earl of Orkney. Also once the site of a nunnery. The building to the right of the island is a ruin. |
