Summary
[edit]DescriptionDamascus National Museum statue of a general fragment 7738.jpg |
English: Fragment of the statue of a general- 2nd/3rd century AD
Fragment of a statue of a Roman commander or divinity, consisting in the lower part of his muscled cuirass (thorax, statos) of Greco-Roman typology, worn over a subarmalis (under-cuirass garment) fitted with protective stripes (Pteryges) . The presence of a tunic under the crenellated border (cymation) of the armour shows a strong eastern influence, as well as the atypical of ornamentation of the cuirass. In the garden there are many statues, many of them seem to be fragments of larger ones. They are from different cultures and periods and only a few were identifiable. |
