Description The U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS Hornet (CV-8) dead in the water as the heavy cruiser USS Northampton (CA-26) attempts to take her in tow during the Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands on 26 October 1942. The cruisers USS Pensacola (CA-24), USS San Diego (CL-53), and USS Juneau (CL-52) maneuver around the carrier. Note that the after guns of the nearest light cruiser, USS Juneau (CL-52), are trained on the camera plane.
