Description
Español: Dama sentada. Óleo sobre lienzo, 92,5 X 68 cm. 1902. Firmado ángulo inferior derecho. Desde 1868, Argentina había quintuplicado su población, era uno de los "graneros del mundo" y un gran abastecedor de carne vacuna y lana. Todo ello había producido una clase dominqante sumamente rica, que construía mansiones, puertos, estaciones ferroviarias e imponentes edificios públicos. La capital Argentina erta una de las ciudades más importantes del mundo, a la altura de París, Berlín, Londres o Nueva York. La procesión de artistas europeos que viajaron a Argentina era constante. Pero la sociedad bonaerense reconoció a Checa como "su mayor pincel". Lallegada de Ulpiano Checa fue anunciada por "The New York Herald", "El Tiempo" de Azul, y l"La Nación" de Buenos Aires, y su estancia, causó más revuelo que la de Sorolla, que había visitado Argentina unos meses antes.
