Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Dalton Square, Lancaster Dalton Square was laid out about 1784 by John Dalton on the site of the old 13th century Dominican friary. He also built the neighbouring streets and named them after members of his own family. The Queen Victoria monument, sculpted by Herbert Hampton, in the centre of the square was built in 1906. In 1909 the Dalton monument was erected.

The square is also home to the Lancaster City Council Town Hall, the council offices in Palatine Hall, the Borough Public House and, at number 2, the home of Dr. Buck Ruxton, the Lancaster murderer who killed his wife and servant on September 14, 1935.

On the west side of the square there are several shops and businesses.
