Summary

[edit]
Description
English: This is the Dakota Hogback in north-central Colorado at Morrison, Colorado. The bedrock consists of eastward-dipping sedimentary rocks of Mesozoic age. The beds were tilted during the Laramie Orogeny in the late Mesozoic to early Cenozoic, when the Rocky Mountains uplifted. In this area, the Upper Jurassic Morrison Formation on the western side of the ridge and the Lower Cretaceous Dakota Sandstone at the crest and eastern side of the ridge are relatively rich in dinosaur fossils. Dinosaur bones and tracks are known from these units.

The slope seen here is the shale-rich Morrison Formation. "Quarry 10" is located on this slope - it is one of Arthur Lakes' dinosaur bone excavation sites that was dug in the late 1800s during the Cope-Marsh Bone Wars.

Locality: Dakota Hogback Watergap at the town of Morrison, north-central Colorado, USA (vicinity of 39° 39' 14.71" North latitude, 105° 11' 18.36" West longitude)
