[edit]DescriptionDainton Bank 2 geograph-2387823-by-Ben-Brooksbank.jpg |
English: The latest motive power struggles up Dainton Bank with the 'Royal Duchy'. View NE, towards Newton Abbot, Exeter, London etc.; ex-Great Western main line to Plymouth and Penzance. This is No. D600 'Active', the very first 'Warship' class Diesel-hydraulic A1A-A1A Type C (built in 1/58), on one of the earliest substitutions of Diesel for steam engines on the BR(WR) main lines. The train is the 13.30 Paddington - Penzance. (The driver looks a bit concerned about the locomotive's ability to surmount the grade without assistance. (See also SX8566 : Diesel-hauled Down 'Cornish Riviera Express' on Dainton Bank). |
