Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The Daihatsu Mira is a super compact "Kei car", the smallest of vehicles allowed on highways in Japan. The Kei car market is regulated in japan to control for size of the vehicle, engine capacity, and other factors. They are extremely popular in Japan. The category is fairly Japan specific, with most Kei cars built and designed and sold in the country. Despite this, plenty Kei cars find their way abroad to developing markets as official imports or used imports. This Mira likely arrived in Jamaica via the latter path. Daihatsu, a nearly 70 year old company owned entirely by Toyota, has been a dominant player in the Kei car field along with Suzuki. A couple of larger Daihatsu compact cars were once available in the USA. However, after not finding many customers for their Charade compact car and Rocky SUV, Daihatsu cut the cord on the US market after just about 5 years in 1992. Daihatsu is still a powerful player in Japan and South Asia particularly. The Mira, which will soon be 40 years old, remains a key offering and is currently in its 9th generation. This is a lower spec (as evidenced by the steel wheels) 7th generation model, which was built from 2006 to 2018.
