DUR-31E78A : Microburin : Mesolithic
Description
English: A complete flint burin of Late Mesolithic date (6300-4300 BC). The lithic is sub-ovate in plan and plano-convex in section. The dorsal surface contains 4 predominant negative scars with corresponding arrises. The central section of the dorsal surface is covered with cortex. The proximal end has been abruptly blunted and the distal, left and distal section of the right hand edges all show some semi- abrupt, scaled retouch, the distal end having a small projecting point situated on the left hand edge.. The ventral surface is predominantly flat with a small bulb of percussion at the left hand proximal edge and a negative scar at the distal end. The lithic retains some cortex on the dorsal surface and is therefore a secondary flake (the cortex is very smooth and fine - could indicate recortification or reuse).

The flint is a light brown in colour with cream inclusions throughout. The cortex is orange brown in colour.
