Summary
[edit]DescriptionDSC1548 Pouwhenua and PRiME rock sculptures (47130927091).jpg |
Pictured are two Te Marae-o-Hine pouwhenua carvings. The closest one is known as "Te Rongo-Marae-Roa", guardian of peace and agriculture. The other is known as "Hopwoods", which pays tribute to European settlers and their contribution to the development of the city. It depicts European tools (saw, file, nails and bolts): symbols of technology and development. Also pictured are four of ten sculptures fashioned from Taranaki andesite in 2000 as part of a sculpture project for PRiME, the Pacific Rim Milenium Experience. Closest to the camera is "Te Rangiotu", by Warwick Warbrick; second is "He tangata. Etangata. It is people." by Dr Richard Shortland Cooper; third is "Untitled" by Johnny Penisula; the fourth is also "Untitled" by Steven Gwaliasi. |
