English: This is another lighthouse for my book I did not have. Someday I may get to the island for a closer view.
Coffin Island light was the first lighthouse built in Liverpool Bay in 1812. The fifth lighthouse in Nova Scotia, built of wood, the octagonal building stood 22.9 meter (75ft) high. It had the latest in technology, the first revolving light in Nova Scotia. Known as a catoptric light, the clockwork mechanism turned fourteen Argand lamps and parabolic reflectors. Revolving every two minutes, the light could be seen up to 15 miles away. The lighthouse was struck by lightning on June 19, 1913 and the fire destroyed it and all of the outbuildings. A year later (1914) a 15.8 meter (52ft) steel reinforced concrete lighthouse was completed. In 2006 the Department of Fisheries and Oceans replaced the second lighthouse built in 1914 with a fibreglass lighthouse.
