Completed in 1843, this building served as a quartermaster’s store and office for the collector and superintendent. Plans for building a blockhouse and its walls over one meter thick suggests that this building also played a military defence role. The quartermaster’s store / toll collector’s house (1843). Interpretive plaques and seasonal exhibits in the Collector’s House help explain the history of this fascinating site. The Carillon Canal is a National Historic Site of Canada in Saint-André-d'Argenteuil, Quebec. It was first built in the 1830s to facilitate travel on the Ottawa River. It is a prominent heritage site and recreation area, visited annually by 20,000 pleasure boaters and 30,000 people who use its riverside park. |
