Aus dem Archiv: Mit dem Mehrzonenschmelzofen TITUS (Tubular Furnace with Integrated Thermal Analysis under Space Conditions) wurden in der Schwerelosigkeit Materialproben von verschiedenen Glasarten, Halbleitermetallen und Aluminium-Verbindungen, die unter irdischen Bedingungen nur schwer mischbar sind, prozessiert. Begleitend dazu waren auf dem Crew Laptop - wie im Bild neben Reinhold Ewald zu sehen - Trainings- und Fehlersuchprogramme abrufbar. Computergestützte Prozeduren - bei MIR'97 im Programm enthalten - werden die Papierform ablösen und den Experimentalbelrieb der Internationalen Raumstation optimal unterstützen.
