Summary

[edit]
Description

A British commercial airliner from the 1950's.

This is an early example, with a fixed undercarriage - something that was unusual, but done to keep the maintenance of the aircraft as simple as possible.

Needless to say, that idea did not find favor with the airlines and subsequently retractable undercarriage was fitted, improving performance and fuel consumption.

This example can be found at Newark Air Museum in England. Note three examples from the English Electric manufacturer in the background. Parts of two Canberras and a Lightning.
