Deutsch: Links oben: Die Grafen von Sayn waren im Mittelalter die Landesherren des Ortes Steineroth, der zum Amt Freusburg und zum Kirchspiel Gebhardshain gehörte (Gensicke, H., Landesgeschichte des Westerwaldes, Wiesbaden 1958, S. 141 f, 344, 372 und Rausch, J., Geschichte des Kreises Altenkirchen, Betzdorf 1921 S. 34). Rechts oben: Die Herren von Ottenstein trugen im 16. und 17. Jahrhundert Güter in Steineroth zu Lehen. Der vor 1569 verstorbene Johann von Ottenstein hatte als erster von Ottenstein ein Mannlehen in Steineroth (HSTA Wiesbaden 430/4661). 1694 waren die von Ottstein noch im Besitz der Güter.
Wahrzeichen Steineroths ist der Steinerother Kopf, eine beherrschende Basaltkuppe. Schon im Jahre 1880 wurde mit 85 Arbeitern in den dortigen Steinbrüchen Basalt abgebaut. Damit dürften dort mit die ältesten Basaltbrüche des Westerwaldes zu suchen sein. Nach 84 Jahren wurde der Betrieb eingestellt. Die Steine sollen auch auf den Ursprung des Ortsnamens "Rodung auf steinigen Boden" hinweisen. Es wurde die Farbe Blau u.a. auch deshalb gewählt, weil der gebrochene Basalt blaufarbig war. |
