Object history | Das Wappen entspricht dem seit Anfang des 15. Jahrhunderts bis zum Ende des Alten Reiches gebrauchten Siegel. Der heilige Mauritius war Patron der Pfarrkirche von Morschheim. Der Adler-Schild nimmt Bezug auf die Leininger Grafen als Ortsherren. 1937 hat der Reichsstatthalter in Bayern die Verleihung des Wappens wegen der Darstellung eines Heiligen, zudem mit schwarzer Hautfarbe, abgelehnt und der Gemeinde nahegelegt, " ein anderes Wappenschild zu wählen, das ihrer auf weltlichem Gebiet liegenden Bedeutung besser entspricht oder von der Führung eines eigenen Wappens abzusehen". So wurde das Wappen erst 1950 genehmigt, allerdings zunächst ohne Kreuzesfahne, die man 1938 in einer weiteren Vorlage als Zugeständnis an den Nationalsozialismus fortgelassen hatte. Das heutige Wappen enthält wieder dieses für den heiligen Mauritius charakteristische Attribut. Die Rüstung wird teils silbern, teils blau gezeichnet; wir folgen dem Andruck bei Hupp. | ||||
