Description
Deutsch: Wappen der ehemaligen Gemeinde Kapellen: „In blauem Schild eine silberne (weiße) Kapelle mit Dachreiter und goldenem (gelbem) gotischen Tor und Rundfenster. Auf den Dachreiter ein goldenes (gelbes) Kreuz. Im rechten Obereck ein goldenes (gelbes) Schildchen mit schwarzem Balken.“ Es handelt sich um ein "redendes Wappen" - die Kapelle steht für den Ortsnamen und bezieht sich auf die frühere Sankt-Ludgerus-Kapelle. Die Farben Blau und Silber weißen auf die frühere Zugehörigkeit zur Herrlichkeit Friemersheim bis zum 14. Jahrhundert hin. Das Wappen der Grafen von Moers (kleiner Schild) steht für die spätere Herrschaft.
English: The arms were officially granted on February 28, 1959. The arms show a canting chapel (Kapelle), which refers to the historical chapel devoted to St. Ludgerus, which developed into th epresent village church. The silver and blue colours are those of the Friemersheim Estate, which became part of the County of Moers in the 14th century. The small shield shows the arms of the Counts of Moers.
