Object history | Die Marktgemeinde Geroda besteht seit 1971 aus der ehemals selbstständigen Gemeinde Geroda und dem Markt Platz. Beide bildeten bereits seit langer Zeit eine Pfarrei, belegt seit 1548. Geroda gehörte bis zum Ende des Alten Reichs zur Abtei Fulda, darauf weist das schwarze Tatzenkreuz. Platz dagegen gehörte zum Hochstift Würzburg. In beiden Orten war das Julius-Spital von Würzburg Grundherr, auf dessen Initiative hin Platz im Jahr 1802 zum Markt erhoben wurde. Daran erinnert das Wappen des Spitals, der silberne Schräglinksbalken in Blau, belegt mit drei blauen Ringen, das zugleich das Wappen des Spitalgründers, Bischof Julius Echter von Mespelbrunn (1573 bis 1617) ist. | ||||
