Object history
Deutsch: Gechingen wird erstmals um das Jahr 1110 anlässlich einer Güterschenkung des Ortsadels an Kloster Hirsau erwähnt. Die Ortsherrschaft war Lehen der Grafen von Calw. Aus dem Calwer Erbe kam der Ort an die Pfalzgrafen von Tübingen, von denen ihn Kloster Herrenalb 1308/09 kaufte. Mit der Reformation Herrenalbs 1535 wurde Gechingen württembergisch und unterstand bis 1808 der Klosterpflege Merklingen. Das Wappen erinnert an die alten Herrschafts- und Verwaltungsverhältnisse. Der Löwe auf dem Dreiberg ist dem Wappen der Grafen von Calw entlehnt, während der Abtsstab die Herrenalber Klosterherrschaft und die Zugehörigkeit zum Klosteramt symbolisiert. Wappen und Flagge wurden auf Vorschlag der Archivdirektion Stuttgart am 18. Juli 1955 vom Innenministerium verliehen. Die Siegel der Gemeinde enthielten zuvor lediglich das königlich württembergische Wappen, das des Landes Württemberg oder die württembergischen Hirschstangen.
