Deutsch: Das springende, "freigelassene" Pferd ist ein volkstümliches Sinnbild für Freiheit und den Ortsnamen Freilassing, der von "freier (nicht abgabepflichtiger) Weide" hergeleitet wird. Das goldene Salzfass symbolisiert den früheren Gemeindenamen Salzburghofen (bis 1923), die große wirtschaftliche Bedeutung des Salzhandels auf der nahen alten Salzstraße und der Salzschifffahrt auf der Salzach. Das Salzfässchen, auch Scheibe genannt, gilt zugleich als Attribut des heiligen Rupert, der um 700 die Grundlagen für das Bistum Salzburg legte, und verweist damit auf die Zugehörigkeit des so genannten Rupertiwinkels zum Erzstift Salzburg von Anfang des 10. bis Anfang des 19. Jahrhunderts. Freilassing, Mittelzentrum des Rupertiwinkels und wichtiger Grenzübergang nach Österreich, wurde 1954 zur Stadt erhoben.
Abweichend vom verbindlichen Erlass von 1936 zeigt Klemens Stadler das Pferd 1964 mit goldener Bewehrung, mit goldener Mähne und goldenem Schweif. |
