Title
DENO-E8A895: Medieval Rivet
Description
English: A sheet copper alloy folded rivet, probably a repair for a copper alloy vessel, of Late Anglo-Saxon to Late Medieval date (AD 1000-1550). The rivet is made from a lozenge-shaped piece of sheet metal which has been folded twice at each end, first inwards towards the centre and then outwards, back on itself, to secure the piece in place. It measures 24.8mm by 13.3mm by 3.4 and weighs 3.5g. A similar rivet is illustrated in Egan's 'Medieval Household' (1998, p. 176, no. 489).
