English: DANE JOHN MOUND IS AN IRON AGE BURIAL MOUND; AFTER 1066 THE NORMANS BUILT A WOODEN CASTLE ATOP THE MOUND AND IT DERIVED ITS NAME FROM THE FRENCH WORD FOR CASTLE WHICHIS DON JON; IN 1790 IT WAS INCORPORATED INTO THE DANE JOHN GARDENS
