Not the sharpest of pictures but here we have Class 52 diesel hydraulic ex D1015 Western Champion looking rather the worse for wear waiting at Swindon works for a decision as to its fate. In this instance thankfully preservation and a return to the main line. I can't remember his companion but I'm sure that one never made it? Somebody out there may know its identity? The other loco pictured behind D1015 is D1005 Western Venturer which shortly afterwards went on temporary display next to the works turntable in place of D1068 Western Reliance. That loco had replaced D1062 Western Courier when it was sold for preservation towards the end of 1976. After being 'touched-up' with a non-matching shade of light blue paint whilst on display D1005 was quickly removed and scrapped with D1015 replacing it. Camera: Olympus Pen F Half Frame SLR.
