Title
D-shaped buckle with a cast pin.
Description
English: The buckle frame is made from cast copper alloy. In plan it is a sub 'D' shape. The width from the strap bar to the apex of the loop (Including the pin) is 20.8mm, it is 28.8mm long and the apex of the loop is 5.5mm thick.

The loop is oval shaped in section and it is at its thickest at the apex of the loop, and then gradually tapers in width and thickness towards the strap bar. The strap bar is offset and narrowed, and is sub-circular in section.

The pin has been cast. A rectangular shaped portion of the pin is curled around the strap bar. The pin then has a bulbous central portion before the short tip of the pin terminal protrudes to rest on the loop.

The surface of the frame and pin is corroded and has lost the majority of its original surface. Red copper alloy corrosion is evident on the frame and pin.

Egan and Pritchard suggest buckles of this shape maybe between of the mid 12th to 14th centuries. In the Museum of London there are similar examples, for example no. 277 is a similar shape.
