Le dépôt métallique de Manson est un ensemble d'une centaine d'objets en bronze datant d'environ 850 avant J.-C., c'est-à-dire vers la fin de l'âge du bronze. Ils ont été découverts en 1873 sur la commune de Saint-Genès Champanelle à Manson. Ces objets sont remarquables par leur variété. Beaucoup sont des bracelets, appliques de ceinture, pendeloques discoïdes tubulaires ou perles-ressorts, tous objets généralement associés aux costumes féminins les plus riches de cette époque. D'autres proviennent d'un équipement guerrier : pointes de lance, lame de hache, bouterolle et attaches de fourreau d'épée, phalères (disques de harnachement), anneaux de sangle. Certains objets peuvent avoir été utilisés par des humains des deux sexes : épingles de vêtement, pinces à épiler, couteau à douille, poignard court. Ce dépôt regroupait les possessions métalliques d'individus riches, au moins une femme et un homme. Il témoigne de pratiques de chasse et de guerre ainsi que de préoccupations de beauté. Les raisons pour lesquelles ce dépôt riche a été déposé puis abandonné là sont encore inconnues. |
