Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Cywain Centre 4 This is the Ox Shoe Statue made by Howard Bowcott. It is inspired by the shoes made by local blacksmiths for cattle, which were sent along the droveways to markets in England. Such a track is near the site and goes to Corwen. Experienced men would take cattle pigs, sheep, geese and turkeys over the mountains, escorting them along the way, before selling them at markets, such as Smithfield in London. The animals feet were often shod for their journey to market. Shoes for the animals would include some especially made for pigs; geese and turkeys' feet would be dipped in a mixture of tar and sand.
