D, the section divided into equal spaces, and vertical lines dropped to themiter line BD as shown. At right angles to BC the girth of the section isdrawn as shown by similar figures from 1 to 26, through which points at rightangles to 1-26, lines are drawTi and intersected by similar numbered linesdrawn from the miter line BD at right angles to BC, thus obtaining the uppermiter cut shown. Now using this miter cut in practice, make the distancefrom either points 25 or 24 (which represents the line of the wall) equal to8 inches, 3 feet 2 inches and 5 feet 10 inches. The 3 feet 2 inches and 5 feet10 inches have opposite miter cuts as shown. As will be seen by the plan, two eight inch pieces will be required, oneright and one left and two 3 feet 2 inch and one 5 feet 10 inch pieces. It is not very long since the general scope of this branchof craftsmanship merely represented a tin-shop business on a largescale. But as things are to-day, this is changed. From an enlargedtin-shop business, sheet-metal cornice work, including imder that titleevery branch of architectural sheet-metal work, has become one of thesubstantial industries of the country, comparing favorably vnih almostany other mechanical branch in the building trades. Xor is this workconfined to the larger cities. In the smaller towns is shown the prog-ress of architectural sheet-metal work in the erection of entire buildingfronts constructed from sheet metal.
