These early inventorswere apparently the original tandem makers, and theypossibly originated the expression lay down to thework. If tlie cuts fairly represent the inventors, trulyno one can deny that they w^re handsome fellows, andthat they deserve a greater reward than can be said tohave accrued to them after the shades of fifty yearshave fallen upon this, probably the greatest effort oftheir lives. Below find another part of their specifica-tion, which illustrates the verbosity of legal languagefound in those, and to some extent in the present Eng-lish patents. ...
