| Description |
English: Eastward view up Cwm Afon valley from road descending into Cymmer, 1990. View eastward, towards Blaengwynfi and the Rhondda Tunnel. The pathway over the viaduct is a relic of the former Rhondda & Swansea Bay (R&SB) Railway (later GWR) line from Swansea etc. via Aberavon to Treherbert via the tunnel, which closed 12/62. The nearer pathway below used to be the ex-GWR line from Bridgend via Tondu and Maesteg to Abergwynfi, which ran through Cymmer to Blaengwynfi parallel to the R&SB (but with a separate station at Cymmer) and was closed 13/6/60, then diverted to Blaengwynfi and closed above Cymmer on 26/2/68, south of Cymmer from 15/7/70 |
