Summary
[edit]DescriptionCut-off Hand Castle of Gruyères.jpg |
The cut-off hand of the castle of Gruyère has been object of several legends. It was said to be brought back from Holy Land after the First Crusade, then to be the hand of a soldier of Charles the Bold, cut before the Battle of Morat, or the hand of a body found in the castle after it would have burned in 1493 (but archeological searches prove it was no major burning), another legend pretend it is the hand of a woman burned for Witchcraft. An analysis made by Dr Bruno Kaufmann at the Institute of antropological research of Aesch in 2003 prove it was the hand of an egyptian mummy of the IIIrd century. It was probably brought back from Egypt in the XVIIIth century. |
