35 mm slide; color. Scientific Classification: Kingdom: Animalia; Phylum: Chordata; Class: Aves; Order: Passeriformes; Family: Mimidae; Genus: Toxostoma; Genus species: Toxostoma curvirostre. Animal characteristics: Head-Body Length: 24-29 cm; Identification: The bill of the curve-billed thrasher is pale gray-brown and curves downward. Its tail is long; Habitat: Desert, urban areas; Diet: Omnivore: insects, berries, fruit, seeds; Reproduction: A breeding pair may remain together on the same territory year-round. After their three eggs are laid, both sexes incubate them during the day and only the female sits on them overnight. Incubation takes 12-15 days. The chicks leave the nest at 14-18 days of age. Adult birds can have two broods per year; Status: No special status; Interesting Facts: The curved bill is used to dig in the soil and turn over leaves and rocks as the bird searches for food.
