Description
English: A U.S. Marine Corps Curtiss SB2C-4 Helldiver piloted by Lt. Frederick C. Lambert, USMCR, flying over Jaluit Atoll in the Marshall Islands, in October 1945. The Japanese light cruiser Kashima and the U.S. Navy destroyer escort USS Thornhill (DE-195) are visible in the background. Kashima was at Jaluit on 22-23 October 1945 to take 911 Japanese soldiers on board for repatriation to Japan. Thornhill was station ship at Jaluit for the whole month.
