Description Five U.S. Navy Curtiss SB2C-5 Helldiver aircraft of Attack Squadron 9A (VA-9A) "Tough Kitties" in flight on 1 April 1948. Lieutenant Commander L.G. Traynor was commanding officer of VA-9A at that time. In the background are four Grumman TBM-3E Avenger of VA-10A. Both squadrons were assigned to Carrier Air Group 9 (CVAG-9) aboard the aircraft carrier USS Philippine Sea (CV-47) for a deployment to the Mediterranean Sea from 9 February to 26 June 1948.
