The charming effect of a bed of tulips early in spring can hardly be surpassed, and the ease with which they can be cultivated makes them deservedly popular. They thrive in any ordinary soil. Plant from September to November, setting the bulbs 4 to 5 inches apart and 3 inches deep. Being perfectly hardy, only a slight covering of litter will protect them during the winter months. As pot plants to bloom in the house in winter they are very satisfactory. After potting, set the pots in a cool, dark place, until well rooted. The letter E after the name denotes early.
