Summary

[edit]
Description

Current lineations on aragonite sand beach. Also called rill lineations and parting lineations, these sedimentary structures are shallow grooves and ridges oriented essentially perpendicular to shoreline and parallel to the back-and-forth swash movement of waves. Current lineations form during a wave’s backwash phase, as are rhomboid ripples (see elsewhere in this photo album).

Orientation: the seaward direction is “up” on this photo & the landward direction is “down”.

Locality: swash zone, beach along the southeastern side of Graham's Harbour, just north of the Bahamas Field Station, northeastern San Salvador Island, eastern Bahamas
