Description

An odd little display, with two glass cabinets and a painting of the <a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/sludgeulper/4065869354/">Finstergrund Bridge</a> occupied the south wall of <a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/sludgeulper/4390051035/">Ernstthal am Rennsteig railway station</a>. The bridge was built between 1910 and 1912, connecting Neuhaus am Rennsteig , Lichte and Sonneberg with Probstzella on the main Leipzig - Munich railway. The bridge is now disused as the section of line north and east of here was abandoned. In the right hand cabinet, a display of christmas baubels, glass Christbahnschmuck, manufactured locally in Lausche. On the left a display of porcelain, probably also made locally and perhaps by the VEB Porzellanwerke Lichte. Somehow, these delicate items were left intact undisturbed Interestingly, there is an exhibiton from APril 2010 in the Schloss Eisfeld on the <a href="http://www.stadt-eisfeld.de/index.php?id=150" rel="nofollow">250th anniversary of Porcelain manufacturing in the Lichtetal</a>, in which referene in German, the history of porcelain manufacture around Piesau, Lichte and Wallendorf, specialising in tea and coffee services, may be found. Later becoming VEB Vereinigte Zierporzellanwerke Lichte the factory produced luxury goods for the GDR and export. Now <a href="http://www.lichteporzellan.de/de/aktuelles/index.htm" rel="nofollow">Lichte Porzellan GmbH</a> with a factory shop.
