Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Curious cattle out on the grazing marsh The tidal flats at Banks are part of the Ribble Estuary National nature Reserve. During the dry summer months the marsh is managed with over 700 cattle, making it one of the largest single herds in Britain, to keep it grazed down to a level that attracts and supports huge numbers of over-wintering wildfowl. Taken looking back towards Old Hollow Farm and the C19th seawall. Due to the fragility of parts of the site and the risk of disturbance to the birds, not to mention the speed of the incoming tides at certain times of year, access is limited to rights of way and permit holders.
