Notes Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA) Basketball (Netball) Cup (1951-1968) The first team sport introduced by the YWCA was basketball (netball) in 1913. However, the sport had been played by New Zealand women from around 1906, and the Auckland Basket Ball Association (ABBA) was established in 1909. The YWCA through its network of associations helped the spread of the game.
